She, and the raw chocolate bar I bought, are saving me from this gloomy day.

Chinese Herbal Remedy II

This week's traditional Chinese remedy for me.

The ingredients are similar to the previous week's, with emphasis on strengthening

my blood.  The woman waiting next to me at the counter received two dried

geckos for her diagnosis prescription.  The elder shopkeeper caught my gaze

as she prepared the geckos.  In simple english, she informed me that

"the tails are very important" for treating asthma.  I'm glad I don't have asthma.

It takes two hours to cook the roots and bark for my elixir each day.

Trumpeter Swans

 

As I drove past one of my favorite fields this afternoon, there were over

a hundred trumpeter swans gathered in the late day sun.

I got out of my car and walked over to the field to listen.

Mesmerized, I received an amazing infusion of swan songs.

Birdseed Lotus

 

This is an offering that I created for the birds today.  

It's 18' in diameter and hand drawn.

It's an incredible experience to create sacred geometry 

larger than your self, because you are contained within it's 

resonance during the entire blessing.

I love rendering this 7 petal lotus.  

It's one continuous line and a magnificent meditation.

Traditionally called the Hidraya Kamalam, it translates as

"Lotus of the Heart". 

There were 12 species of birds singing around me while 

I was on the pavement laying down the 50 lbs of seed mix.

Eager to photograph the birds enjoying their buffet, I went 

inside to await their arrival.  

Not a single bird arrived!

2000 Year Old Recipe

 

I'm going to a traditional doctor of Oriental medicine in Chinatown in Vancouver.  

He wrote my diagnosis and gave the recipe to the 2 older women in the front 

of the shop to fill.  Like little elves (they were about half my height) they 

opened drawers and jars of all sorts of things and weighed the items on a hand 

brass scale, placing all the preparations on individual pieces of brown paper.

  

As they're scurrying about, I ask him what some of the items are, and ask about 

different items around me. (I'll take photos next week). This recipe for 

strengthening the blood and building immunity is over 2000 years old!  

These ingredients are all for the stock that I need to cook each day.  

I thanked him for not including the dried geckos, watersnakes, 

and seahorses in my remedy.  

This magnificent botanical world blossomed for me as I watched the women 

putting all the ingrediants on the organic paper. 

 

Here is my first "creation" with my remedy.  I wish that 

I could just stay in the shop overnight and have free reign of all the goodies.
